When you register your bike you are much more likely to have it returned if it is ever stolen. Join us on Saturday, May 18 from 1–4 p.m. to register yours at our free Bike Registration & Security Workshop. Officers from the Portland Police Bike Theft Task Force will be onsite to register bikes through Bike Index. Anyone who registers their bike during the event will get special pricing on ABUS locks.* Attendees will learn several ways to prevent bicycle theft and can enter our raffle for a chance to win one of four $50 gift cards to spend at Clever Cycles.†
Do you know where the serial number is on your bike? Do you know how to report a stolen bike, or how to safely recover your bike if you find it for sale online? Have your questions answered by a bike theft expert from the Portland Police Bureau’s Bike Theft Task Force, a special team of officers who recovered more than 300 bikes last year. The Police Bureau takes reports on stolen bikes, but without any means of identification it can be difficult to have probable cause to seize a stolen bike as well as return recovered bikes to their rightful owners. Bike registration is a method of identifying an owner for a bike based on the serial number. Registering your bike increases your chances of getting your bike back if it's stolen. Last year, 75% of recovered bikes were returned to their owners. Registering is free, and when you register your bike at our event, you'll get a sweet deal on a new lock.
When your bike is secure, it’s there for you to ride, every day, whenever you want. At our workshop you’ll learn valuable theft prevention techniques, including which locks to use, where and how to lock safely, and what to do if your bike is stolen. Everybody is welcome to attend, no pre-registration required. Saturday, May 18, 2019, 1–4 p.m., at Clever Cycles, 900 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland, Oregon 97214.
